你在找什么？“翻箱倒柜”的10大表達

        我們時不時的就會找一樣東西，但是！任憑我們翻箱倒柜，也可能找不到。也有可能戴著眼鏡找眼鏡，拿著手機找手機這種情況~哈哈哈哈

        除了looking for，“翻箱倒柜”的找東西還可以怎么說？

1. root around   翻找，翻尋

root的本意是根；根源，作動詞表達翻找，翻尋，這個短語尤指在其他物品中尋找，搜尋。

She rooted through/among the papers on her desk.

她在桌上的文件中翻來翻去地找東西。

2. poke around   搜索；翻找

poke主要指用手指、工具或器具去“戳，刺，捅”，如果你想說“扎心了，老鐵”，就可以來一句You poked my heart！ 

I was poking around in the drawer, looking for the key, when I found this!

我在抽屜里翻來翻去找鑰匙，就在這時找到了這個！

3. rummage   翻找，翻尋，亂翻

rummage常和in/through搭配，形容翻箱倒柜地尋找。

She rummaged in/through all the drawers, looking for a pen.

她把所有抽屜都翻了個遍，想找支筆。

4. turn sth upside down   將…翻了個底朝天

這個短語指你搜遍了整個角落，常常還留下一片狼藉。

I turned the apartment upside down but I couldn't find the letter.

我把公寓翻了個底朝天也還是找不著那些照片。

5. rifle   迅速翻查；匆忙翻找

rifle就是“來福槍；步槍”的意思，當它用作動詞，就表示匆忙翻找某物，經常指偷盜行為。

The safe had been rifled and the diamonds were gone.

保險柜被洗劫了，鉆石不翼而飛。

6. trawl   搜尋；網羅

trawl表示搜尋的時候，指的是為了得到自己想要的而搜尋大量的信息。

You need to trawl through a lot of data to get results that are valid.

要想獲得有效的結果你得搜尋大量的資料。

7. scout   偵察；搜索；尋找

當你使用scout的時候，多指搜尋了整個區域。

He's scouting about/around for somewhere better to live.

他到處尋找更好的住處。

它作名詞的話，尤指體育或娛樂界的人才發掘者，星探。

8. comb   認真搜尋；仔細搜查

comb多指警方徹底仔細搜查以發現證據。

Investigators combed through the wreckage.

調查人員在殘骸中認真搜尋。

9. forage   搜尋

forage的本意是“糧草；飼料”，作動詞尤指四處尋找食物。

The children had been living on the streets, foraging for scraps.

那些孩子露宿街頭，四處尋找殘羹剩飯。

10. like finding a needle in a haystack   大海撈針

haystack是干草堆的意思，在草堆里找針（needle），不就是大海撈針嘛！

Looking for my key in the mess of the desk is like finding a needle in a haystack.

在雜亂的書桌上找我的鑰匙就像是大海撈針一般。
