Halloween

Halloween (or Hallowe'en) is an annual [??nju?l]每年的 holiday observed on October 31, primarily in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. It is today largely a secular [?sekj?l?，?sekj?l?(r)]現世的，俗界的 celebration.

Common Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes戲服 and attending costume parties, carving雕刻 jack-o'-lanterns, ghost tours, bonfires篝火, apple bobbing, visiting haunted鬧鬼的 attractions, committing pranks惡作劇, telling ghost stories or other frightening tales, and watching horror films.

A variant變體 of dunking involves kneeling on a chair, holding a fork between the teeth and trying to drop the fork into an apple. Another common game involves hanging up treacle糖漿 or syrup-coated scones by strings; these must be eaten without using hands while they remain attached to the string, an activity that inevitably必然的 leads to a very sticky face.
