1. get along with someone 跟某人合得來。


The two of them seem to get along really well.

他們倆好象特合得來。

She is easy to get along with.

她這人特好相處。

I've requested to transfer to a different team. I just couldn't get along with Jack.

我要求換到別的組去，我跟Jack實在是合不來。

2. coop up 關在什么地方。


She cooped herself up in the library before the exam.

考試前，她整天泡在圖書館里。

The kids spent three days cooped up in the house because of the rain.

天下雨，孩子在家里憋了三天。

Dogs shouldn't be cooped up in the house all day.

主人不能整天把狗關在屋子里。

3. you'll never hear the end of it. (口語)別人一定會說個沒完。


If you get fired again, you'll never hear the end of it from your wife.

你要是再被炒，你老婆會念死你。

If John loses to a female wrestler, he'll never hear the end of it.

如果摔跤輸給女生，一定會被別人嘲笑個沒完沒了。

4. walk a fine line 意思是在二者間找到平衡。

Parents have to walk a fine line between keeping an eye on their children and respecting their children's privacy.

父母既要隨時注意孩子的動向，又要尊重孩子的隱私，并設法在這二者間找到平衡。

5. I'm just looking. 或是 I'm only looking. 我只是隨便看看。

去商店買東西，sales person 會問，Can I help you? Do you need any help? Can I help you find anything?(你有什么特別要找的東西嗎？)

你就可以說， I’m just looking. I’m only looking. 我就是隨便看看。


6. hats off to someone 向某人表示敬意。


Hats off to you for a job well done.

你們工作完成得漂亮，真是好樣的！

Hats off to Jack -- it takes a lot of guts to tell the truth.

我對Jack肅然起敬，講實話需要勇氣。

Hats off to him for taking the challenge.
