forecast可當動詞與名詞，有預測、預報之意，多用在天氣與財經上的預測；而predict也是預測的意思，使用的范圍較廣，名詞為prediction。其他相似的單字有：預料foresee、預期anticipate、推測calculate。

Eye Of The Typhoon
臺風眼


臺風眼的英文是eye of the typhoon / storm，也可以說typhoon eye。臺風眼是環流中氣壓最低的地方，其形狀大多為圓形、橢圓形、卵形、開口眼和多邊形等五種，形狀愈完整、愈清晰，代表強度愈強。臺風的位置以臺風眼為準，在這個區域里通常無風無雨，但在臺風眼邊緣卻是風速最強的地方。

臺風假

臺風來襲時，當風力及雨量達到一定水平，各縣市政府就會宣布放臺風假。在英文中，臺風假的說法為typhoon day或typhoon day-off。

積水

泥石流

泥石流為泥土、石頭與大量的水混合，受重力作用而沿著斜坡滑動的現象，英文是debris flow，debris是“碎片、殘骸”的意思，flow“流動”。在山區或地勢險峻的地區，連日暴雨很可能引發泥石流。

Landslide
山體滑坡

山體滑坡又稱坍方，英文是landslide。巖石或土壤吸收了大量的雨水，導致內部摩擦力降低，加上重力作用，有倒塌的可能。
